Waikato has a policy of sighting firearms licences twice yearly as a precaution to protect the club.
Recently after discussion with the firearms officer I installed a policy where we record licence details.
This was met with a blatant refusal from the Magons (piako club)and caused a stir to start the day of at our 2nd qualifier.
I explained that it was what I understood was correct from the firearms officer but was told quote..dont listen to firearms officers as they dont know what they are doing. He was not happy to hear this!
I spoke to the officer in depth this morning and it is NOT a requirement to record details as I understood, what he said to me was it was a good idea and we would condone it. I misunderstood what he had said.
So unless we put it our club rules as a requirement it is not necessary, something we WONT be doing in future.
We will still require members and non members to produce a current licence twice yearly as a precaution.
